Charles Chapman attended Christ Church College, Cambridge c. 1855, achieving his BA in 1858 and receiving his MA in 1862. He was ordained deacon in 1858 by the Bishop of Winchester, and then priest the following year. From 1860 to 1870 he was in the Royal Navy as a Chaplain and Naval Instructor, seeing service in the Mediterranean, around the West Coast of Africa, Australia and China. Then in 1870 he was appointed Vicar of Church Coniston in the Diocese of Carlisle, where he remained until his death in 1905. Read More

George Fabes Prowse, was born in Devonport, England, on Thursday the 5th of December, 18o5. At the age of 21, he entered the hardware business in Devonport  but, after learning a useful trade, sailed for Halifax, Nova Scotia (nearly a four months' voyage in those days). He stayed in Halifax long enough to get married, and came, in 1829, to Montreal, via Quebec, - from the latter place by steamer, which was drawn up St. Mary's Rapids by oxen. With but $1.5o in his pocket, he started business on St. Lawrence Main, at the corner of Vitre Street. Read more
